My Public Display of Dieting – Week 38

RESULTS: Gained back 1 pound for a total loss of 28 pounds

OuchLike yesterday’s post about my running, this one about my dieting is just depressing. I used the “Ouch” image for both because I don’t have an unhappy smiley face. This past week, I’ve barely even tried. I want to drown my troubles in sugar-filled cookies and chocolate-covered almonds and Wild Cherry Pepsi and margaritas. And yet – of course – when I try, it only makes me feel worse.

I’m ten pounds and ten weeks – two and a half months – behind my goal. The cause of my weight gain is the same as the result: a dispiritedness that I can’t seem to shake.

The one thing that keeps me going is the fact that I promised to blog about my journey for the fifty weeks. I credit this with keeping me from gaining back ten pounds rather than three. And at this point, I’ll take all the small favors I can find.

Kitty, be gentle with yourself. Instead of focusing on how far behind you are, remember instead what you’ve accomplished so far and how good it feels to wear clothes that are smaller than before. You’ve hit a plateau but you don’t have to stay there. Yes, it is hard when your mind and body say, “Let’s go for the really delicious stuff!” And yes, it does leave you feeling worse. Is there something else you can eat when your feel that way? My go to’s in those cases are usually a handful of almond, some Sunsweet Ones dried prunes (sweet and filling) or ripe, juicy cantaloupe slices. And even if you don’t hit 50 in 50 and have to extend it, that’s OK too. Sometimes you need to re-evaluate so you can re-focus. Set a new goal and move forward, see how far you’ve come and celebrating the journey to come. You are awesome for undertaking this journey and for posting so keep up the good work!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, my friend!! I needed that. 🙂 I read your comment at least three times so far and it’s helping me to relax a little about this one thing. (So many other things to be stressed about, but hopefully those other things will become fewer soon, too.) It’s a small step, but today I am totally overeating on celery and cream cheese – because cream cheese has WAY fewer calories than peanut butter. 🙂 At least it’s something!
