My Public Display of Dieting – Week 41

RESULTS: Lost 0ย pounds for a total loss of 28 pounds

Hand pushing the restart buttonYes, this blog is really late! It’s almost time for the week 42 update. But at least it gave me a couple extra days to lose that extra vacation weight! Haha!

So as of Wednesday of this week, I was back down to 170, having lost the 3-5 pounds I’d gained. Whew! Now I have to get back on the exercise wagon and hit the Restart button. I’ll tell you on Sunday, in my Chubby Girls Run column, what’s going on and how things are about to change. ๐Ÿ™‚

Meanwhile, one thing I’ve really noticed lately is that things I used to think tasted great, or things that sound like they should taste great, don’t really taste that great. I ate an Entenmann’s apple cider donut this morning with apple cider. (It’s fall! Of course I have to have apple cider and donuts!) But let me just say that it tasted more like a donut-shaped sugar bar with a touch of apple-cinnamon flavor. Big disappointment. ๐Ÿ™ I guess the upside is that I won’t be eating any more of them.

Also, the more protein I eat, the less I have sugar cravings. So now that most of our junk food is gone, I’m getting back to eating more protein and not wanting the junk food. Again – whew! There was a point a few days ago when I was afraid I’d rewired my body chemistry back to the out-of-control way of overeating I’d gotten caught up in the last few years. Yikes!

Oh, one more thing that might be just a way for me to keep track rather than terribly interesting to you. I’ve started having headaches again, a lot of them. I don’t know if it’s the new apartment, the new town, an extra dose of stress, the extra sugar and junk food, the two weeks without taking probiotics because they were on order, or – probably – a combination of several of these things. But as of today, back on probiotics, cutting way back on sugar and junk food, and let’s see how that affects the headaches.

See you again in a few days! ๐Ÿ™‚

RESULTS:ย ON VACATION!!

I’ve been on vacation this past week. I can’t remember the last time John and I were on a real vacation. I can’t remember the last time I felt so relaxed and carefree. It was wonderful! (It took a few days to get to that point, but it was awesome!)

And since we’d originally picked this date months ago because it coincided with John’s birthday, there was a lot of eating from day one! ๐Ÿ˜€ We had cake and ice cream and a million snacks the first day when a few friends came over to surprise John for his birthday. Then we went to the grocery store and found some great items in the Manager’s Meat Specials section and John made an amazing steak and potatoes and blackened green beans meal on Monday.

We had a gazillion different breakfast pastries, chocolate chip blueberry pancakes, eggs and maple bacon, eggs and breakfast steak, hashbrown-stuffed hamburgers, gallons of soda pop, wine and hard cider and whiskey (one of John’s birthday presents), and a half dozen treats we picked up at Costco before we got to the resort.

And that doesn’t include all the things we ate but forgot about!! ๐Ÿ˜€

It was a super fun week for a dozen reasons, and we really enjoyed it. Our shorts definitely felt tighter on the return trip home, but it was worth it. As of today, we are both back on the wagon. Very little sugar or alcohol, very little bread, very few calories in general! Haha!

So next week, after I get rid of whatever I gained this past week, I’ll get on the scale again and keep working at my goal of losing 50 pounds in 50 weeks. Since I’m about 10-ish pounds behind, I’ll almost certainly have to extend my time frame for my 50-pound goal, but I’ll keep going till I hit it. Yay!

Chubby Girls Run – Along the Beach

Capistrano BeachLast week, I said I was at least going to pack my running shoes and clothes for vacation, and I hoped to get out at least once. Well, I made it!

I went running along the path near the beach Wednesday and Friday. Oh, how my muscles hurt!! (Red is for them screaming in pain.) ย But it still felt good to be out. The first day, I ran along the path south, thinking I’d be able to at least see the ocean from the path. But it quickly curved inward around a private, gated subdivision and all I got to see was the cars and trains along the Pacific Coast Highway.

Friday, I turnBeach morning runed north and ran past the state park and through the parking lots with people just waking up and coming out of their tents.ย That was nicer because the ocean was in view the whole way, and there wereย lots of other runners.

I did four miles both days, hoping that I wasn’t overdoing it with so few runs the last six weeks, and I’ll do four miles three or four days this week, too. If more crazy things don’t happen in my life, I should be ready and able to run the Carlsbad Half Marathon in January – with my best time ever! ๐Ÿ˜€

My Public Display of Dieting – Week 39

Smiley face with thumb upRESULTS: Lost 0ย pounds for a total loss of 28 pounds

Last week, one of my friends commented that I need to stop focusing on what I haven’t done (lose 39 pounds in 39 weeks), and instead focus on what I have done.

I’VE LOST AND KEPT OFF 28 POUNDS!!!! WOOHOOOOOO!!!!!

Thanks for the reminder, CG. ๐Ÿ˜€ย

This week we’ll be celebrating John’s birthday, so there will be cake, ice cream, pizza, In N Out burgers and fries, peanut butter-filled pretzels, chocolate-covered almonds, and so much more. I hope to get at least one run along the beach, but at this point I’ll just be glad to enjoy life, enjoy health, and renew my goal next week to lose 50 pounds.

I hope you have a great week! ๐Ÿ˜€

Chubby Girls Run – Sometimes Even on Vacation

Silly Kitty after her run

Silly Kitty after a run in June

I’m writing this post on Friday, actually, because I’ll be very busy on Sunday (when it goes live) celebrating John’s birthday! Woohooo!!!

We had an opportunity several months ago to get away this week for an inexpensive vacation. We’re sooo glad we took the opportunity because we sure need the break! ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t say for sure that I’ll be running this week, but I hope to get out at least once. One thing I know for sure – I’m packing my running shoes and clothes! Only 3 1/2 months till the Carlsbad Half Marathon so, even though I’m not worried, I need to start focusing no matter what.

I’ve got 15 weeks to get strong and fit to run another 13 miles. Let’s go!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Nerdy Kitty – Playing Dungeons & Dragons LIVE

I don’t know why – blame it on the sugar – but a few weeks ago (Sept 2) I was playing Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) with John and some friends, and I suddenly decided that what we really needed was to record our antics on Facebook Live. LOL!

It’s long and funny and ridiculous and boring (for some of you watching, not for us!) and hilarious and just way too much fun. ๐Ÿ˜€ This was the last game in an adventure that had been going on and off for about a year, and included some of the most fun people I’ve ever gamed with.

Now I’m not a huge gamer like John and lots of our friends. I like playing in John’s games, though, because his stories are interesting and he always makes me feel like it’s okay that I don’t know what I’m doing or which dice to use. ๐Ÿ™‚ But my friend Tracy told me today she really doesn’t know what D&D is at all, didn’t realize it was a live game with real people around a table, so I told her I’d post this so she could see what it looks like.

Feel feel to use the little bar to move further ahead and get a quick overview of our antics. ๐Ÿ˜€ This is only a small portion of the time that we played, but we had an amazing time!! Hope some parts of the video make you laugh!

My Public Display of Dieting – Week 38

RESULTS: Gained back 1 pound for a total loss of 28 pounds

OuchLike yesterday’s post about my running, this one about my dieting is just depressing. I used the “Ouch” image for both because I don’t have an unhappy smiley face. This past week, I’ve barely even tried. I want to drown my troubles in sugar-filled cookies and chocolate-covered almonds and Wild Cherry Pepsi and margaritas.ย And yet – of course – when I try, it only makes me feel worse.

I’m ten pounds and ten weeks – two and a half months – behind my goal. The cause of my weight gain is the same as the result: a dispiritedness that I can’t seem to shake.

The one thing that keeps me going is the fact that I promised to blog about my journey for the fifty weeks. I credit this with keeping me from gaining back ten pounds rather than three. And at this point, I’ll take all the small favors I can find.

Chubby Girls Run – Except When They Don’t

OuchLife has been really difficult lately (second verse, same as the first ๐Ÿ™ ), and I’ve gotten barely one run in per week. I’m desperately out of shape, and terribly far behind in preparing for the Carlsbad Half Marathon in January. Sigh…

All I can do is keep trying to find a way through my troubles and keep going. I don’t know how, but I’ll just have to keep choosing every day not to give up.

My Public Display of Dieting – Week 37

RESULTS: Lost 1 pound (of 3 gained) for a total loss of 29ย pounds

Found a church close enough to walk to!

Found a church close enough to walk to! Only 2 miles!

In a perfect world, that would say, TOTAL LOSS OF 37 POUNDS above. But it’s not a perfect world and I am far from a perfect person. ๐Ÿ™‚ My stress eating has lessened, but now my mind and body has gotten back into some bad habits, so I’m trying to get myself to want to eat healthier.

(Let me just say that the sweet potato tortilla chips from Trader Joe’s dipped into the Lay’s Ranch Dip are awesome!!)

So in last week’s entry, I wrote that I probably gained a couple pounds. After finding my scale, I’m guessing I probably gained 3 pounds, or else there’s a difference between the other scale I was using and ours. In any case, since I found our digital scale, I lost one of the gained pounds, so that’s good.

But I’ve got to find a way to get back to eating healthier. I’ve gone over calories 5-7 days out of 7 the last few weeks. I’m 8 pounds, and therefore, as many as 8 or more weeks behind. But…I told myself yesterday that I wouldn’t quit until I got to 50 pounds, even if it turns out to be in ย 55 or 60 or more weeks.

Chubby Girls Run – Uphill Both Ways

My hill overlooking a valley in Escondido

My hill overlooking a valley in Escondido

So I told you I just moved and that I now live on a hill. That’ll be great for training runs, increasing muscle in my legs and all. And I think I figured out some streets to run on for longer flat stretches. I’ll be trying some out tomorrow.

Escondido is an older town, so lots of streets don’t have sidewalks in the neighborhoods, and many have older asphalt pathways that look like I’ll have to be careful not to trip on the uneven surfaces. I’ll have to balance wanting something solid under my feet but having to breathe more car exhaust on busier streets with wanting a quieter neighborhood but needing to be careful not to trip or run into a bad area of town…especially since I don’t know which parts are the bad parts.

But I did finally get a run in last Thursday, two weeks from my last run where I used to live. Wow, talk about good hill training! I started with one block of flat, then one block uphill (it felt like 45 degrees up!), then one block downhill, then a four-block stretch with a more sloping hill down, then two blocks more sloping up, then one block flat, then another upright hill, straight down that hill, and then repeat the whole thing. It’s 1.5 miles to make that lap around the “block” that I live on. No streets go through. So I ran it twice for 3 miles.

I have to say, all things considered, I was pretty happy with my results, just under 40 minutes doing the 5/1 run/walk that I always do. We’ll see what tomorrow brings. I’m looking forward to seeing more of my new town by running through it. ๐Ÿ™‚ And I’m really looking forward to getting back in shape!
