LOVE AT THE LIBRARY: Two Classes on How to Self-Publish

I’m excited to be teaching two LIVE in-person workshops this spring teaching people what they need to know about self-publishing and helping them get started. You want to come?

Love at the Library event banner

LOVE AT THE LIBRARY – Saturday, May 28, Noon – 6pm, Free
The first one is tomorrow, Saturday, May 28, 2016, at the downtown San Diego library. The San Diego chapter of Romance Writers of America is presenting, Love at the Library, a day of workshops, readings, and book signings (with lots of your favorite romance authors) followed by the screening of the feature-length documentary, Love Between the Covers.

The film explores the romance novel industry, what makes it so popular, and why so many intelligent, talented women choose to write romance. It’s really interesting (I saw it at the LA Film Festival last year) and yours truly has a cameo appearance! 😀

My workshop, The Ins and Outs of Self-Publishing, will run from 1:00pm to 1:50pm. I’ll have handouts for everyone, and there will be Q&A at the end. Two other writing workshops are at 12 noon and at 2:00pm. More details, including times and location, can be found here. This event is completely FREE and runs from Noon to 6pm. Cool, right?!

THE WRITE STUFF – Saturday, June 4, 10am – Noon, $10
The second workshop is next Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the Valley Center County Library not far from Escondido, California, in northern San Diego county. It’s also not far from Temecula. This one will be very cool for different reasons. 😉

First, it’s a 2-hour workshop instead of 50 minutes. And the class size is capped at 20 people, so I’ll be able to help every student more personally and in greater depth.

Second, the $10 fee per person goes directly to the library! Love that! You get to learn about self-publishing, and the library benefits. Win-win!

I’m part of “The Write Stuff” series and my workshop, Self-Publishing – A How-to Seminar, will cover many topics that are in my online course (Your How-to Guide to Self-Publishing, which will re-open this summer).

Since you need to pre-register for this event (no walk-ins except maybe on the small chance the class isn’t filled), I am attaching the registration PDF here so you can download it and mail it in ASAP. If you have any questions, or want to make sure it’s not too late to register, email me at kitty AT kittybucholtz DOT com.

I hope to see you at these events! Should be lots of fun! 😀

Join Me at the OC Book Fair in Costa Mesa This Saturday

OCWriterbookfair_Poster_LogoOnlly

This upcoming Saturday, March 26, 2016, I’ll be one of 30 authors participating in the Orange County Writers Book Fair. Fun! 🙂 Click to find out more about who will be there. We’ll have fiction and nonfiction authors, and books for children and adults.

We’ll be at The Lab Anti-Mall in Costa Mesa, CA, from 11am to 4pm. I’ve never been there, but it looks really cool. Kind of artsy and eclectic. And it’s outdoors so it should be perfect at this time of year. (Right now, the weather is supposed to be a gorgeous 73 and sunny!)

If you live in the Orange County area, I’d love to see you on Saturday!

Stop and Say Hello This Saturday at the LA Times Festival of Books

LA Fest of Books logo

I’ve always wanted to go to the LA Times Festival of Books, but I’ve never been able to due to schedule conflicts, etc. This year I not only get to attend, I’ll be signing books there! Yay!

The Southern California chapters of Romance Writers of America are sharing a booth at the Festival this year, and several authors will be signing in two-hour blocks on Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, 2015. I’m first up on Saturday morning from 10:00am to 12 noon, along with my new friend Mia Hopkins. We’ll be at booth 916 near the L.A. Times Stage.

I’d love to meet you if we haven’t met yet, or say hi again if we have. Stop by and chat for a minute. I’ll have all three stories in the superhero series, Adventures of Lewis and Clarke, available in print at discounted prices. Admission is free, and parking is $10. (It’s on the USC campus. Details on how to get there are on the web site.)

During our two-hour block, Mia is even bringing in some cowboy models so you can have a photo taken with them. 😉  Be sure to tell your friends!

Hope to see you there!

Listen to Kitty’s First Radio Interview

Okay, my friends, I’m slowly but surely catching you up on all my news. Today’s bit is perhaps the most fun – you can listen to me on the radio!

If you remember, I went to Michigan for three weeks in August and September for four book signings and a charity half marathon. It was a crazy-busy but awesome time! One of the many fun parts was being interviewed on the radio.

Now if you know me personally, you know I love to talk to people. John would go so far as to say I just love to talk. Period. LOL! In any case, I had a fantastic time. Cartman from “Cartman in the Morning” on ROCK 105 (WGFM 105.1 in Northern Michigan) was really nice and made me feel welcome and at ease. (Thanks, Cartman!) We had a fun time chatting and laughing.

You can listen to the interview by going to Cartman’s podcasts page and scrolling down to September 6. You’ll see the book cover for Unexpected Superhero there. Or you can listen to it here. I hope Cartman and I make you smile! 🙂

Kindle MatchBook – Buy the Print Book, Get the Kindle Book Half Off

Hello my friends!

Sorry I’ve not been blogging much. It was a whirlwind five weeks away from home promoting the release of Unexpected Superhero! Lots to tell you, but I’ll have to catch you up slowly because I’m working on getting the short story, “Superhero in Disguise,” out to you this month! More on that later, too.

MatchBook_logoPreLaunchImage2Today I want to tell you about a new program at Amazon that I’ve enrolled my books in. It’s called Kindle MatchBook, and it launches in October. (Does that mean today? See more details here.) Apparently, if you buy a print copy of my books (and lots of other books!) from the Amazon.com web site, you can buy the Kindle edition for at least 50% off.

This is what it says on the Amazon page:

For thousands of qualifying books, your past, present, and future print-edition purchases will soon allow you to buy the Kindle edition for $2.99, $1.99, $0.99, or free.

That means that Little Miss Lovesick would be 99 cents and Unexpected Superhero would be $1.99 as ebooks. It has to be at least half off, but I can only choose prices with 99 on the end. Since Lovesick is normally $2.99, and half is $1.50, I had to go to the next lower 99 point. A better deal for you!

I had to ask you guys on my Facebook Author page if this even sounded like something you cared about. Maybe it would be a waste of time. But Rachel said she wouldn’t mind having a print and ebook copy of the same book. And I was thinking that I’d buy a print copy of a book to give someone as a Christmas gift and keep the ebook for myself. So after discussing it with you guys, I enrolled both books.

I looked on the book pages on Amazon to see if there is a notice that says, this book is enrolled in the Kindle MatchBook program, but I don’t see anything yet. I guess we’ll figure it out together. 🙂

Meanwhile, I’m working on my short story. It’s about when Tori and Joe (from Unexpected Superhero) meet in costume on Halloween. It’s a fun story, perfect for this time of year. I’d wanted to have it available for you today, but I’m having some personal life crises (yes, more than one) that I have to deal with as well. Don’t you just hate it when life gets in the way of your plans?! LOL!

I hope you’re all having a lovely week! I’ll start catching you up on my whirlwind book tour soon!

Last Day for Free Book

Hi friends!

I’m so excited to see how well Unexpected Superhero is doing! It’s been a fun few days watching stats and finding out what new people think of the book. I hope you’re enjoying my giggly enthusiasm on Facebook. 🙂

Today is the last day that the book is free, so if you haven’t picked it up, hurry and get it! In a few hours, it will be back to its regular price of $3.99. Tell your friends, too! Unexpected Superhero is Mad About You becomes Mr and Mrs Smith.

Coming Labor Day Weekend in All Formats
For those of you who own something other than a Kindle, Unexpected Superhero will be released in ebook format on Friday, August 30 to Nook, Kobo, Sony, iTunes, Smashwords, and more! It may take a few days to upload to some of those sites, but I hope to be able to get the uploads to take effect on that Friday. Yay!

New Short Story Coming
I just purchased the cover image for my short story, “Superhero in Disguise.” That will be out for your reading pleasure on Tuesday, October 1. Yay! It’s the slightly updated story that appears in the Romancing the Pages anthology. It’s the romantic first meeting of Tori and Joe on Halloween night. Fun stuff!

Book Signing Events
Starting this Saturday, I will be doing several book signings in Michigan. The first one is at the ROCK for CHUM event in Mason, Michigan. It’s at The ROC, 1706 W Dansville Road. Most things start around noon, and there will be several live Christian bands playing beginning at 2pm. I’ll be at a table somewhere selling and signing books, with a portion of the proceeds going to support CHUM. Admission is FREE with donations appreciated.

Similarly, on Labor Day, Monday, September 2, the RUN for CHUM will be raising funds in the form of foot races – a kids run, a 5K race, and a half marathon. I’m not ready, but I’m running the half marathon! Apparently, there will be a place for me to sign books after the race as well…if you can wait that long. I’m usually one of the last to cross the finish line. 🙂

And I’m very excited to announce I’ll be doing a book signing at Horizon Books in Traverse City! This is the bookstore I remember my mom taking us kids to whenever we went into “town.” Didn’t matter if we needed anything, we were going to stop at Horizon Books. LOL! Can you guess where I got my love of books?

I’ll be at Horizon Books on Front Street on Saturday, September 7, from 3pm to 4pm. I’ll take a few minutes to entertain you with why I chose to set my books in Traverse City and the surrounding area, and then I’ll sign copies of Little Miss Lovesick and Unexpected Superhero.

I hope to see some of you at some of these events! 🙂

Another Book Signing and Free Books

Adventures in Vegas
Today I’m at the Romance Novel Convention in Las Vegas. It’s been an exciting adventure so far! But not necessarily all good. To start out, our poor little car died four miles from the hotel. FOUR MILES! See the picture on my Facebook Author Page.

By the time I realized that it didn’t just need to cool down, it needed professional help (no comments on that, please!), the local garages had all closed. I’ve been a AAA member since I got my driver’s license, and for the first time in 27 years, they couldn’t help me. I was shocked and starting to get a little panicky because I came to town alone.

But God, my awesome personal superhero, came to my rescue! A couple of friends helped me figure out a game plan and I got to my hotel with a change of clothes and my laptop, leaving the car and all my belongings where they were. The next morning, my brother called me out of the blue (anyone want to rent a Wyndham timeshare in Vegas for Labor Day weekend? He’s got one available that they can’t use) and suddenly my big brother was at my rescue again. I felt like I was 16! It was wonderful!

Rescued!
Several of my friends were praying hard for everything to turn out okay and it did! One sent money to take care of unexpected expenses. My brother told the auto repair facility that he wanted to pay for the car repairs. (I should get the fixed car back any moment! Woo-hoo!!) The AAA guys were super friendly and unloaded all my stuff into their courtesy shuttle and got me and all my boxes of books to my hotel.

And then when the convention started, I immediately met several people that I’m so glad I found! Another Christian woman who is also trying to entertain her readers while keeping her stories in her own world view; a sweet model with the nicest smile who I hope to work with on my next book cover; a really nice, smart woman who started up her own marketing firm for writers; and a woman who makes covers I adore! Plus I’m finally able to take time to get to know another friend a lot better. I’m so excited!

Saturday is the book signing, so if you’ll be in Vegas, stop by the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino on Fremont Street from 11am to 2pm. Then I’ll be at the Author/Reader Meet and Greet from 3 to 5.

Book Signing in Traverse City
I’m excited to announce that I’ve confirmed another book signing! This one will be Saturday, September 7th from 3 to 4pm at Horizon Books in Traverse City, Michigan. This signing will be particularly special because I grew up with my mom taking us to Horizon Books every time we went to town, whether we needed something or not. This is practically a childhood dream come true! (I’d never dared to dream as a child that I could grow up to be an author one day.)

Unexpected Superhero is Free
Remember – and tell all your friends – that Unexpected Superhero will be available for free for five days starting this Saturday, August 10! Woo-hooo!!!

It’s a Kindle exclusive now, so you need a Kindle or a Kindle app. (I found out the new Nook now has a Kindle app on it! And you can download one for your iPad or smart phone as well as your computer.) I hope to have the book loaded up on all the other ebook vendor sites (Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, Sony, iTunes, Kobo, etc.) on Labor Day weekend. It may show up a few days (or weeks, for Apple) later, but keep an eye out for it.

Happy Reading! 🙂
