Netflix Picks: A Gifted Man

January 25, 2013

A Gifted ManThe description of A Gifted Man on Netflix made us give it a try. I'm not sure that either of us had heard of it before, but the concept looked interesting.

This metaphysical drama begins with a surgeon having a chance encounter with his ex-wife…and then learning she died two weeks earlier.

Even though sometimes I was annoyed with the main character always acting the same way – I'm too busy with my upscale neurosurgeon practice to have time to help the people coming into my ex-wife's clinic for the poor – it was still interesting to see both that internal conflict and the major internal conflict in which he, a neurosurgeon, was having frequent conversations with his dead ex-wife.

We've watched seven of the 16 episodes that are on Netflix right now, but I don't know if we'll continue. By the third episode we were chuckling at how he once again just happens to be the clinic when what they need is a neurosurgeon to diagnose this patient. By the end of the seventh episode, we got tired of it being mostly the same thing done differently in each episode.

If you like medical dramas and/or supernatural twists like a ghost showing up all the time, you might like A Gifted Man.
