The Shunning is based on a book by Beverly Lewis, an author huge in the Christian fiction market. Hallmark picked up the rights and made the movie, which automatically means you know it's well done.
I'm not a fan of Amish fiction, very popular in the Christian market, but I turned the movie on while doing some work just to have some background noise. The story was what I expected and, while I was occasionally distracted by what was happening onscreen, it wasn't The Avengers. 😉
However, the ending was sweet and made me cry. That always gets points with me. And I have to admit, I really like the actress who plays the main character, Danielle Panabaker. I had to look her up on IMDB.com to remember why I knew her. She's one of the two main characters in Sky High, one of our favorite movies.
If you read Christian fiction, if you like Amish fiction, or if you watch all the Hallmark movies just because you know you'll probably like them, you'll like The Shunning.
